Around 220,000 small-scale shrimp farms in the Mekong Delta run aerators and pumps around the clock, and electricity is their largest operating cost after feed. Solar4Shrimp turns that cost into a competitive advantage and a catalyst for sustainable development.
Solar4Shrimp is Blueberry Energy's high-impact solar-as-a-service for the Vietnamese aquaculture vertical, providing clean and sustainable solar energy for Vietnam's shrimp farm and aquaculture sector.
Smallholder shrimp farmers in Vietnam's Mekong Delta operate aerators, water pumps, and treatment systems around the clock. Electricity is their second-largest operating cost after feed, around 15% of the operating budget and rising, and power outages put whole crops at risk. In an industry where every dong counts, that is a margin killer.
Solar4Shrimp provides solar panels, financing, and technical support through a lease or service model. Farmers reduce energy costs immediately. More consistent aeration improves shrimp survival rates and yield. And verified clean energy use opens the door to premium "sustainably farmed" export markets in Europe, Japan, and the US — markets that pay a measurable price premium.
This isn't charity. It's impact investing that generates returns — for the farmer, for the investor, and for the planet.

From pilot to province-wide deployment. A phased approach designed for scale, built for impact.
We work with local cooperatives, provincial agricultural departments, and development agencies to identify suitable farms. Technical site assessments evaluate solar potential, grid connectivity, and pond infrastructure. Community trust is the foundation — we earn it before we install anything.
Each installation is tailored to the farm's specific energy profile — aerator load, pump capacity, operating hours. We structure the financing through a combination of impact investment, development grants (OPEC Fund, UNDP), and commercial bank credit lines. The farmer's cash outlay: zero.
Local technicians install the systems. Farmers receive hands-on training in system operation, basic maintenance, and energy management. Our affiliate sales staff provide ongoing support. The training video program ensures consistency across hundreds of installations.
Remote monitoring tracks system performance and energy savings. Verified clean energy use enables sustainability certification for export markets. We connect participating farmers with premium buyers who pay more for sustainably farmed shrimp — completing the value chain from panel to plate.
Both. Solar4Shrimp is structured as a social enterprise — a commercially viable business that generates measurable social and environmental impact alongside financial returns. Impact investors receive market-rate returns. Farmers receive genuine economic benefit. The distinction between "doing good" and "doing well" is a false one.
They don't pay upfront. Solar4Shrimp operates on a lease or service model — similar to Solar-as-a-Service for factories. The farmer's energy cost drops from day one. Monthly payments are structured to be less than their previous diesel or grid electricity costs. Net effect: immediate savings.
Most smallholder installations range from 5–20 kWp, depending on pond size and aeration requirements. Larger cooperative installations can reach 50–100 kWp. Every system is custom-designed for the specific farm's energy profile.
We track solar energy generation and match it to the farm's production cycles. This data feeds into sustainability certification programs recognized by European and Asian buyers. The premium these buyers pay for certified product creates additional income that reinforces the economic case for solar adoption.
Funding comes from a blend of impact investment capital, development grants (we've applied to the OPEC Fund for International Development and engage with UNDP), and commercial bank credit lines from Vietnamese banks. We're building a blended finance structure that de-risks the investment for each participant.
Yes. We're actively raising seed capital for the pilot phase and scaling capital for province-wide deployment. Impact investors, development finance institutions, and ESG-focused funds are welcome to discuss participation. Contact us directly.
Whether you're an impact investor, a development agency, or a shrimp buyer seeking sustainable supply — there's a role for you in Solar4Shrimp.
